Telangana Unveils New Energy Policy and AI City Project to Boost Innovation in 2025
Hyderabad Gears Up for Major Initiatives
The Telangana government is set to launch a new energy policy in January 2025, alongside breaking ground for the highly anticipated 200-acre AI City on Hyderabad’s outskirts in the first quarter of the year. Telangana IT and Industries Minister, D Sridhar Babu, shared the updates at the IAMPHENON India 2024 conclave.
AI City: A Hub for Innovation
The AI City project, expected to be completed within 15-18 months after construction begins, will host:
- Research and Development (R&D) facilities
- Innovation centres
- Startups
- Global Capability Centres (GCCs)
This state-of-the-art project will also feature hyperscale computing facilities. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have already been signed with major players like Yotta, which plans to use GPUs manufactured by tech giants such as Nvidia.
Telangana: A Data Hub for Global Giants
Hyderabad has emerged as a preferred destination for multinational corporations. Companies like Amazon AWS and Microsoft have already established data centres in the state. With 250 GCCs employing over 2 lakh professionals, the state aims to increase this number to over 400.
Revamped Energy Policy to Meet Industrial Demands
To support the growing infrastructure, the Telangana government is revising its energy policy. The updated policy will focus on ensuring a reliable power supply for both domestic and industrial purposes, particularly for energy-intensive data centres.
Focus on Talent Development
The state government is actively investing in upskilling and reskilling its workforce. Initiatives like the Young India Skills University (YISU) aim to prepare Telangana’s talent pool to meet the demands of a $1 trillion economy envisioned over the next decade.
Conclusion
Telangana’s ambitious plans to launch a new energy policy and develop AI City mark significant steps in its journey towards becoming a global innovation hub. With state-of-the-art infrastructure, multinational partnerships, and a focus on talent development, the state is poised for rapid economic growth in the coming years.
