Telangana Hikes Beer Prices by 15% Under New Excise Policy – Effective Today
Beer lovers in Telangana will now have to pay 15% more for their favorite beverage as the state government has implemented a price hike effective from February 11. This increase is part of Telangana’s revised excise policy, aimed at boosting revenue from liquor sales.
Telangana Becomes One of the Costliest States for Beer in South India
With the new excise duty, Telangana is now among the most expensive states for beer consumption in South India. The price of a 650ml beer bottle is expected to rise to ₹170-₹180, depending on the brand.
Government Approves Price Hike
In a late-night directive, Principal Secretary (Revenue) SAM Rizvi authorized the Telangana Beverages Corporation Limited (TBC) to implement the revised prices as per the recommendations of the Price Fixation Committee, led by retired Justice Jaiswal.
Existing Stock to Be Sold at Revised Rates
According to a government order, all existing beer stock in Telangana will also be sold at new prices, as reported by Reuters.
Beer Supply Disruptions in Telangana
Last month, United Breweries Limited (UBL), owned by Heineken, temporarily halted beer supply to Telangana, demanding a 33% price increase. Popular brands such as Kingfisher, Heineken, Amstel Bier, and London Pilsner were affected due to the pricing dispute.
This 15% price hike will significantly impact beer consumers and the liquor industry in Telangana as the state moves forward with its new excise policy.
