Telangana Prisons Report: 31% Rise in Incarceration, Youth Admissions Surge Over 50%

The Telangana Prisons Department has reported a significant 30.89% increase in prisoner admissions, with total numbers rising from 31,428 to 41,138. This surge highlights growing concerns within the state’s prison system.

A key observation is the over 50% rise in incarceration among individuals aged below 30, increasing from 12,154 to 18,855. This trend points to the need for addressing underlying societal and systemic issues.

• Male prisoner admissions increased from 29,059 to 38,239.
• Female prisoner admissions rose from 2,332 to 2,875.
• Transgender prisoner admissions decreased from 37 to 24.
